South Africa Accreditation System
WTB is accredited to ISO/IEC by the South Africa Accreditation System (SANAS Lab T020). SANAS is a recognized international organization and has signed the Mutual Recognition Agreements with a number of other international accreditation bodies such as Chinese National Laboratory China (CNLA), International Accreditation (IANZ) New Zealand and National Association Authorities Australia (NATA). This overcomes international trade barriers and eliminates the need for international re-testing.

IWTO

IWTO is the international body representing the interests of the world’s wool-textile trade and industry. IWTO membership covers wool growers, traders, primary processors, spinners, weavers, garment makers and retailers of wool and allied fibres in its member countries, as well as all kind of organizations related to wool products and the wool business in general. WTB Certificates are issued in accordance with the requirements of the International Wool Textile Organization (IWTO) under License no.05.

WTB is also a member of Interwoollabs (IWL) which aims to develop co-operation between member laboratories to ensure the most correct and uniform application of IWTO test methods.

ILRT

WTB is a proud member of the Independent Laboratories Round Trials Group (ILRT) and actively participate in international trials providing accurate and precise testing. The members represent the largest independent wool testing laboratories in the world, and are collectively responsible for the testing of approximately 40% of the world's greasy wool production, and in excess of 80% of all greasy wool tested.

OBJECTIVE MEASUREMENT

There are numerous wool producers throughout the country breeding with Merino sheep. The clip is tested by Objective Measurements which is an integral part of the preparation, marketing and processing of wool.

The first stage of testing is that the bales in the wool stores are grab sampled to obtain a display sample which is also used for length and strength tufts, thereafter the bales are accurately weighed to determine the mass of greasy wool. A core sample is also taken from each bale in a lot, before being sealed in a plastic bag with the sample identification.

Objective Measurement is the determination, by means of scientific methods, of clean wool content, vegetable matter and mean fibre diameter of greasy wool.
